Obama Double-Crosses With DOMA Decision

CMR has called attention to the Obama Administration's attempts to mislead Congress about their intent with regard to the Defense of Marriage Act. The DOMA, which President Obama is inviting the courts to strike down, was supposed to bar the armed forces from having to provide housing, medical, and other benefits to same-sex couples on military bases. Members of Congress should call for immediate hearings to get honest answers to specific questions, starting with the cost of extending all family benefits to same-sex couples in the military. If the new Congress asks questions that get to the bottom of this deception and all others that the administration has been promoting for months, even President Obama could be deterred from issuing yet another false statement: The required “certification” that final repeal of the current law will do no harm to our military.
